Over the past three decades, the Macau Design Awards have worked with designers worldwide to discuss design trends and the value they carry. The top design works are brought together through a series of professional exchange activities, such as competitions, exhibitions, and lectures. In this process, the Macao Design Awards and designers jointly focus on the role of design in social development, explore the creativity and benefits of design in the commercial market, explore design trends, and promote cooperation and connection.
Macao Design Awards 2023 will focus on the theme “The Future of Design”, discuss the future development trends, challenges, and opportunities of design with the participants and explore the definition and value of design.
As the only international design competition in Macau, the “Macau Design Award 2023” welcomes entries from professional designers and students from around the world. Nine groups of internationally acclaimed designers will be serving as judges, including Tommy Li (Hong Kong), Liu Zhao (mainland China), Zhao Qing (mainland China), Liu Keng Ming (Taiwan), Irobe Yoshiaki (Japan), Kim Do-Hyung (Korea), Janine Rewell (Finland), Priscilla Balmer & Yvo Hählen (Switzerland) and Chí-An Benjamin De Leo (Vietnam), making up the most impressive lineup of esteemed judges ever.
Apart from adjudication, the judges will host seminars in Macau in October to share their expert knowledge and valuable experiences. These seminars aim to encourage creative youths to join the design industry with this valuable exchange opportunity. The results will be announced at the award ceremony in January next year, and the organisers will hold an exhibition for the selected works to showcase the emerging design talents of Macau and even the world, thereby contributing to the vibrant development of the design industry.
Under the theme of “The Future of Design,” the “Macau Design Award 2023” encourages participants to delve into future development trends, challenges, and opportunities within the realm of design while uncovering the true meaning and value of the design field. Submissions for the “Macau Design Award 2023” are now open for two categories: the “Public Group” and the “Student Group.” Participants must possess valid authorship rights for their creations, which must have been created and published between 1 January 2021 and 30 May 2023.
