From 7th – 20th August, The Sanchaya will welcome Los Angeles based visual artist, Darel Carey, to create a unique piece of work inspired by the monochromatic estate. Located on the sandy shores of Bintan Island, just 50 minutes from Singapore, The Sanchaya brings together artists, film producers, musicians, fashion designers, and photographers, sparking inspiration and enabling talent to thrive as part of an ongoing commitment to creativity.

Darel’s current work includes dimensional line drawings and immersive tape installations. Optical and spatial perception are his main focus; he uses lines to shape and bend the perceived dimensions of a surface or a space. Darel has always had an affinity towards spatial perspectives and illusion, and is fascinated by our visual understanding of the world around us. Darel sees a strong connection between his art and the patterns of nature, from the beginning of our known universe, to the birth of stars and galaxies, to life on Earth. He appreciates the beauty of emergent properties and systems found in nature, and attempts to embody these attributes in his art.

Darel’s art compels you to look at a surface or a space differently, to contemplate your own perception and the environment around you. He finds simplicity creating complexity a beautiful thing and something profound to think about.

The Sanchaya provides a platform for artistic talent in the region; with an inspiring environment where artistic pursuits thrive, it is the destination of choice for acclaimed artists, musicians and film enthusiasts. As part of their dedication to supporting artistic endeavours, the property has an ongoing artist in residence programme, whereby they invite a diverse range of talent to exhibit and perform at the estate. A haven for artistic talent, The Sanchaya provides inspiration to creatives, serving as a blank canvas for unique bodies of work.
